Buttway Project

The big one!!

The aim of the project is to undertake an archaeological dig to investigate the features shown in the geophysics survey and to try and date any archaeology. The dig will be open to members of the community who are interested in becoming more involved with practical archaeology in the Cliffe area.
It is proposed that the dig is undertaken in a two week period as the geophysics indicates that there are potentially a number of features across the Buttway site and an on going excavation will allow members of the public and other interested groups to participate fully in the dig.
A geophysical survey was carried out on the Buttway by members of the Cliffe at Hoo Historical Society and West Kent Archaeology Society (a previous report has been submitted to the Parish Council) and a number of features identified.
